Astaroth (大魔王 アスタロト Daimaō Asutaroto?) or "Great Demon Lord Astaroth" in Japanese, is the main antagonist of the Ghosts 'n Goblins series. He is a boss in Project X Zone, and previously appeared in Namco x Capcom with his master, Nebiroth.

History[]

The Great Demon Lord Astaroth is the ruler of the Demon Realm Village. He is the main antagonist of knight Arthur, being the final boss from Ghosts 'n Goblins and reappearing in other games as a boss near the end of Ghouls 'n Ghosts, Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts, Ultimate Ghosts 'n Goblins, and Ghosts 'n Goblins Resurrection. He is apparently based on Astaroth (also Ashtaroth, Astarot and Asteroth), a Crowned Prince of Hell in demonology.

Crosspedia[]

Lord of Makai castle. He has one face on his head and on his body. He can spit powerful fire from his mouth, as well as fire beams from his eyes. In an attempt to rule the human world, he took the Princess of the kingdom captive, but his plans were foiled by the knight Arthur. He was then revived by the Demon king Lucifer to take on Arthur again.

Gameplay[]

Astaroth makes his debut in Chapter 16: Detestable Golden Sunny Demon. He talks with Lord Raptor about Jedah and his plans and the villains from parallel worlds, when he realizes the heroes reached to his territory and Arthur is among them, so he decides to take care of them to kill them in Chapter 17: Operation Crackdown in Gain Ground. It's revealed that Astaroth resurrected after the events of Namco X Capcom, also he was the one who gave power to the detonating statues, but is defeated and retreats from the realm.

Later, he reappears in Chapter 28: The Realm of Overlords, along with his other half. Both are intended to kill Arthur and the others for invading his kingdom, with the Riemsianne's help, however, the group is surprised to see the two Astaroths in the same place, so Valkyrie explains that both are the same being in power as appearance, after a long talk, they summon their minions to attack the heroes as the Shielders and the Morolians, however, they are interrupted momentarily by Jedah, who comes to help Astaroth, only for fun and other things that are still a mystery to the heroes. However, both are defeated, the first one promises to return at some point and the second one says that the power of Makai is growing increasingly and they retreat from the castle.
